		NIST REFPROP DATABASE Version 6.01

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
 Hard disk, 5.0 MB of free space for complete installation; PC
 capable of running Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) 3.1, Windows 3.11,
 Windows(R) 95, or Windows NT(TM); math coprocessor. A printer
 is optional and should be Windows compatible. Available on 3.5
 inch diskettes.

INSTALLATION:
 Put Disk 1 in diskette drive (A or B). In Windows 3.1 or later
 or Windows NT, select File from the Program Manager's Menu Bar
 followed by Run from the File menu. In Windows 95, click the
 Start button and select Run. In the "Command Line:" box, type

		A:\SETUP or B:\SETUP

 and press <Enter>. Follow the remainder of the Installation
 instructions. A NIST REFPROP 6.01 Program Group
 will be created at the end of installation.

To run the program, double-click the REFPROP 6.01 icon.

TEST FORTRAN PROGRAM

A short test program (in the file test.for) is included as
an example of using the subroutines directly from the source
code. This program is set up for the DOS file-naming
convention. UNIX and Macintosh users will need to edit the
first few lines of the program so that the fluid files are
accessed correctly. Please see the comment lines at the
begining of the program.

"Bridge" routines for compatibility with previous versions

A set of "bridge" or translation routines are provided in the
source code file "bridge.for". These routines have the same
names and arguments as the routines in Refprop version 5, but
use the new property formulations. If you have written
applications using the previous versions, these routines will
allow you to use version 6 with little or no reprogramming.

Use of these routines will not give you access to some of the
new features in version 6, but they will provide all of the
functionality of version 5, but based on the new property
models.

It is recommended that you replace calls to the old "BCONST",
with calls to the new "SETUP". (These routines are used to
specify the component(s) you are working with.) If you use
the old call to BCONST, it will be necessary for you to edit
BCONST to specify the path to the fluid data files. See the
comments in the source code listing. (This is necessary
because of a fundamental change in how the two versions stored
fluid data:  version 5 stored all fluid constants in BLOCK DATA;
version 6 stores this information in data files.)

To use these routines:
(1) Edit your application code to replace calls to "BCONST"
     with analogous calls to "SETUP"
     --or--
     Edit BCONST to specify the path to the fluid data files.
(2) Compile the file "bridge.for" and the other 20 source
     files described in Appendix C of the Users' Guide.
(3) Link the resulting object files together with your
     application's code. Delete any references to the
     version 5 code in the link statement.

16-bit versus 32-bit dynamic link libraried (DLLs)

The Refprop interface uses uses a 16-bit DLL (Refprp6.fdl).
We will switch Refprop over to 32-bit code at some point in
the future, but some 3rd-party developers are already needing
the 32-bit DLL. This capability is provided in the following
files:
   Refp32.dll, Refp32.lib

Attention UNIX source code users.

The auto-install program which creates the Windows application
does not preserve the case of the filenames; this may cause
problems in systems with case-sensitive filenames, such as
UNIX. The work-around to this is to manually change the
following filenames in the "fluids" directory:

   Ammonia.fld  --> ammonia.fld
   Butane.fld   --> butane.fld
   Co2.fld      --> CO2.fld
   Ethane.fld   --> ethane.fld
   Isobutan.fld --> isobutan.fld
   Propane.fld  --> propane.fld
   Propylen.fld --> propylen.fld
   Rc318.fld    --> RC318.fld
   Hmx.bnc      --> HMX.bnc

The filenames for the FORTRAN source code have also been
changed such that only the first letter is capitalized, but
this should not cause problems as long as you use consistent
filenames in compile and link commands.
